Microwave remote sensing of hydrological parameters on the NOPEX area

چکیده
A research project aimed at evaluating the microwave remote sensing methods for producing some basic parameters of land surfaces which in ̄uence the hydrological cycle, on a regular basis, has been conducted within the framework of the European Northern Hemisphere Climate Processes Land-surface Experiment (NOPEX) and Forest-Dynamic and Monitoring (ForestDynamo) experiments. In this paper, the sensitivity of the backscattering coef®cient at C-and L-bands to soil moisture, surface roughness and herbaceous and arboreous biomass has been investigated by analysing experimental data collected with Synthetic Aperture Radar in Northern Europe by the airborne EMISAR during the European Multisensor Airborne Campaign (EMAC), organised by the European Space Agency and in Italy during the Multisensor Airborne Campaign (MAC-91) and the Shuttle Imaging Radar (SIR-C) experiment, both organised by NASA with the cooperation of the Italian Space Agency. An analysis of SSM/I (Special Sensor Microwave Imager) radiometric satellite images, carried out over several Scandinavian regions, which has shown sensitivity to seasonal changes of vegetation and snow cover of microwave emission, is also reported. # 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. Remote Sensing Data and Information for Hydrological Monitoring and Modeling
Remote sensing data and information are shown great potential in supplying relevant spatial data and parameters at the appropriate scale for use in distributed hydrological models for water resource applications. In contrast with many conventional data normally represented by point measurements, remote sensing based measurements are spatially averages over the pixels can appropriate for distrib...
متن کاملAnalyzing the Spatial Pattern of Drought in Central and South Zagros Using Remote Sensing Indicators
Introduction: As a complex phenomenon occurring due to a long period of poor precipitation, drought causes water scarcity in the soil and the hydrological system via hydrological, bringing about long-term consequences which may lead to severe economic, environmental, and social problems worldwide. Droughts are classified into four types: meteorological (rainfall), agricultural (soil’s moisture)...
متن کاملAsphalt Pavement Performance Model of Airport Using Microwave Remote Sensing Satellite
The purpose of this study is to build the binary logit model of an airport pavement that could monitor the pavement condition in near real time using microwave remote sensing satellite, then the relationship between the international roughness index (IRI) of an airport and backscattering values from PALSAR images of the ALOS satellite was determined. Total 390 data were used in analysis. This m...
متن کاملRadar-based surface soil moisture retrieval over agricultural used sites – A multi-sensor approach
Spatial distributed information of isochronal surface soil moisture is very important to compensate the inaccuracy of initial conditions and the uncertainty of parameters in hydrological models at the landscape scale. In this paper the conceptual procedure to derive spatial distributed surface soil moisture values from synthetic aperture radar data by using ancillary optical remote sensing data...
متن کاملIdentification of Groundwater Potential Zones in Moalleman, Iran by Remote Sensing and Index Overlay Technique in GIS
Water plays a vital role in the development of activities in an area. The surface water resources are inadequate to fulfill the water demand. Productivity through groundwater is quite high as compared to surface water, but groundwater resources have not yet been properly exploited. Keeping this view, the present study attempts to select and delineate various groundwater potential zones for the ...
